Noun, [ˈatɑːr] = a perfume or essential oil extracted from flowers. The use of the term “attar” thus extends from North Africa to India and is derived from the Arabic word “عطر” (ʿiṭr), which means ‘fragrance’ or “essence.”

As long as we breathe, we smell. ATTAR is a journey that follows the nose and explores how smell preserves memories, shapes rituals, is weaponized, and bridges cultures. Five scent molecules take center stage, forming an invisible olfactory compass. The film traces their journey back to their origins—the landscapes where they are from, the hands that distill them, and the lives intertwined with their aromas.
